What is TPD?

The Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) and Article 20 came into force on the 20th of May 2017. This introduced new rules and regulations into the UK vaping industry to ensure that minimum standards were set to ensure that only quality and safe e-cigarettes and e-liquids were available on the market and that additional information is provided so that informed choices can be made.

The main new requirements to fall in line with the TPD regulations which applies to retailers: 

• Reduced vape tank capacity which can now hold no more than 2ml of e-liquid.
• Restricted volume of nicotine based e-liquid for sale in one bottle to 10ml, any larger bottles must contain no nicotine. 
• Restrict the highest amount of nicotine available to 20mg/ml.
• Require nicotine-containing products and packaging to be child-proof and tamper evident.
• Ban on certain ingredients including caffeine, colourings and taurine.
• Products must follow new labelling requirements and display warnings.
• All vape products must be notified to MHRA before they can be sold.
